Reliably Koehler
The
goal for the Open - *Utility seminar is to give class instructors, vocational
and professional trainers the opportunity to see for themselves the 12-week
Open-dog class format; how it is taught and in what order each exercise is
taught.
Included
throughout the seminar will be the full set of class handout sheets that we use
in our Open class, and they will be distributed at the end of each segment (just
like its done at class).
Day
one:
We’ll
begin the day with novice run-throughs.
Each will be critiqued and suggestions will be made on how to improve
handling and performance. Additionally,
we will revisit some of the novice level work which overlaps into Open
training. This will include things like
fronts and finishes, the out-of-sight stays, off lead heeling and the heeling
post. We’ll conclude that segment with a Q&A session pertaining to novice
exercises; the emphasis being on technique and execution and a discussion on
the importance of meeting training objectives.
Open
lessons 1-2-3-4-5-6. With each exercise,
more accurately: each component of each exercise, being presented with the
emphasis being on showing you how to teach each component of each
exercise. Remember, our mission is to
teach you not only about proper technique and execution but, more importantly,
how to correctly teach it to a group class.
Evening
one: Much of the Utility (or “advanced”) level of obedience is actually started
during the Open (or “intermediate”) level of instruction. So after *dinner, we will be discussing how
to use your intermediate class (“Open”) to prepare your students for the
advanced (“Utility”) level exercises.
Day
two:
Open
lessons 7-8-9 thru 12;
The
balance of the exercises unique to Utility;
Q&A.
